REVIEWS

This is a gorgeous example of Cabernet from Rutherford. Floral notes and vibrant berry fruit jump out of the glass and showcase the wine's finely-knit personality. The 2015 Estate Cabernet from Round Pond has total harmony and class. We cant wait to see what the wine will do over the next 10+ years.
-- Premier Sommelier Team

"Round Pond's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford is attractive, even if it is at times a bit monolithic. The dark cherry, plum, smoke, menthol and tobacco flavors speak with baritone intensity. Powerful and resonant in the glass, the 2015 has more than enough depth and persistence to drink well for a number of years..."

"Blackberry compote, ivy and plum liqueur as well as some crème de cassis are prominent on the nose. Full-bodied with round tannins, lots of ripe fruit and a fruit-forward finish."

"My tasting at Round Pond was one of the highlights of my fall trip through Napa Valley, not just because of the wines, but more importantly because of what appears to be an enormous amount of potential that continues to be realized by owners Ryan and Miles MacDonnell. Newly arrived winemaker JJ Dowell and consultant Thomas Brown make a formidable team. They also have access to Round Pond's elite sites on the home ranch in Rutherford along with M Bar Ranch in Oakville. All of these vineyards naturally yield wines of substance and power. Round Pond does best when those attributes are complemented by a measure of finesse and structure."
-- Antonio Galloni, Vinous March 2018

"Round Pond was founded in 1983, but for many years the MacDonnell family only sold their fruit to other wineries. It wasn’t until 2002 that they began bottling and selling their own wine. Fast-forward to today: Round Pond wines have acquired a loyal following, with each vintage earning high accolades. The winery has a cottage look and feel to it, and from the terrace guests are put in front of a tranquil view with Spring Mountain in the distance. There are a few ways to experience the estate, from the basic tasting to a garden tour followed by tastings of wine and estate olive oil. Yes, these folks make olive oil, and not just one: they produce olive oils infused with such flavors as garlic, basil, rosemary, blood orange and more. The rest of the property consists of their 360 acres of vineyard plantings that are grown both sustainably and with Fish Friendly Farming certification." --SF Chronicle

TASTING NOTES

This estate-grown Cabernet evolves in the glass from aromatics of wild strawberry and rhubarb to notes of red licorice and cocoa dust. The plush entry of ripe black cherry and blackberry pie on the palate is followed by richer tones of toffee, fresh oak, and a hint of black pepper. Elegant and supple, this wine shows a lengthy and pleasing granite-like finish.
