Waypoint Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch, 2015
It’s hard to know where to start here --- Tim Milos (has received a wild amount of huge scores over the years!), the powerful, long-lived 2015 Napa vintage, Oakville Ranch Vineyard, the majestic vineyard perched above Dalla Valle and the key ingredient for winemakers like Andy Erickson, Philippe Melka and Mark Herold... Well, maybe just ALL of these things, plus our head-spinning price!
The name Waypoint refers to the intersection of longitude and latitude on a GPS, so Waypoint wines are always single-vineyard, single varietal expressions of a singular terroir. Today's wine tells a story of one of the true gems of Oakville, perched on a plateau of the famous red dirt just below Pritchard Hill with neighboring vineyards like Dalla Valle, Peter Michael's Au Paradis, Phelps' Backus, Tor's Tierra Roja and Turnbull's Leopoldina (also known as Weitz). In short, this is $200+ dollar Cab territory and home of some of the best Cabernet in the world.
In addition, this site is expertly farmed to organic standards by Phil Coturri. Very smooth and inviting and filled to the rim with juicy black cherry liqueur and blueberry fruit, with powerful, masculine structure, and the heft to age for another decade with ease.
HOW DO WE DO IT? Don’t ask, just grab it while you can!
