Napa Valley, California
Aptly named, Cornerstone holds a precious place among the storied Cabs of Napa. Fruit from Kairos Vineyard, Oak Knoll District, Oakville Station, Ink Grade Vineyard, and Howell Mountain come together, creating a full blown masterpiece to expose the grandeur of Napa. Rich and velvety, this is a generous bottle that’s balanced enough to drink now and structured enough to age for a decade or more.
The full scope of Napa unfolds for you at each sip. This 88% Cab Sauv & 12% Merlot showstopper is from grapes grown in Napa’s most coveted soils. The Oak Knoll District, Oakville Station, and Howell Mountain terroirs are all represented. But Cornerstone didn’t stop there, Single Vineyard Cab from Kairos Vineyard and Ink Grade Vineyard made its way into the mix, adding depth and complexity to the inky purple blend.
Cornerstone’s mantra: Excellence is not enough. It’s little surprise that for 30 years the Napa stronghold has made wines that go beyond exceptionalism and have become experiential rites of passage for wine lovers.
Winemakers Charles Thomas and Kari Auringer each bring their own legacy to the cellar. James Laube of Wine Spectator called Charles Thomas “One of California’s best winemakers.” While Kari’s thumbprint is on such cult favs as Scarecrow and Kelly Fleming.
A complex masterpiece, this deep purple glass opens up with blackberries, cherries, and mocha on the nose. The focal point of this generous sip is an elegant and supple mouthfeel. Flavors of dark cherry, vanilla, and savory herbs lead into the lingering finish.
Cornerstone Cellars wines are the combined personal vision of Dragutsky, Camp and Keene of what makes a wine great. The symbiosis of their personalities are realized in our wines.
We are not about statistics and points, terroir is terroir and every vineyard must find its own balance.
There is no finer place in the world to grow cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot than the Napa Valley. It is both an honor to be able to craft wine from such outstanding fruit and it our responsibility to make each wine to the very best of our ability.
We make pinot and chardonnay in Oregon because we think it is a world class place to grow those varieties that the Napa Valley is not. It's more important where the vines put down roots than where the winemakers do.
We do not make wine for everyone. We make what we believe in, not what the mass market demands. We will not be a slave to the fashion of the moment, we make wines we love to drink. What makes a great wine does not change; it's not like having hemlines to go up and down according latest whim.
Our wines all express our vision of the 3 V's: vineyard, vintage and variety.
We are an atypical Napa Valley winery and we like it that way.
Spiced lamb meat balls, braised red cabbage, or good ol’ grilled steak are all perfect with this bottle.
