An Exemplary Embodiment of Library Cab

It's always a pleasure to meet a winemaker face to face and really absorb the vibe of their wine. Randal Townley came by the office last month to show his 2010 Cab, and between the deliciously aged juice and his story as winemaker, it was an easy sell.

Ripe fruit gives way to tertiary aromas on the nose. The palate is well-integrated with age, the tannins are smoothed and accompanied by plum, tobacco and black cherry on a full body. Lengthy finish. Drinking well in its window, and can age at least another 2-3 years. 94 Points - JZ Sept '18

WHY WE LOVE IT

    Cabernet Sauvignon
  • APPELLATION
    Napa Valley
  • ALCOHOL
    14.50%
  • SIZE
    750ml

2010 was hailed the anomalous vintage. A smaller than average harvest, (due to spring shatter and the late summer heat), the result was still a vintage rich with beautiful wines, that ultimately showed balanced with fine tannin, rich fruit. The finest Cabs proved to be precisely what collectors hope for.

This is one of those Cabs where artisan winemaking married with pristine aging resulted in a perfect marriage. With a focus on itty bitty lots of boutique wines and maintaining a philosophy of traditional winemaking and grape growing, Townley makes up for its size in scope and sheer quality. It’s exactly because of this type of artisan producer that we got into the business in the first place!

Townley’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from premier sites in the Napa Valley features rich blackberry fruit, a hint of toasty oak and a long, beautiful finish smoothed by more than five years of bottle aging in the winery’s cool cellar. “Fans of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will find a lot to get excited about with the 2010 vintage,” says Vinous who gives the vintage 95 points (along with the Wine Advocate). “The 2010s are magnificent, viscerally thrilling wines loaded with character and personality.” For those Members Looking for a Napa Cabernet with just the right amount of age on it, from a family-owned, quality-obsessed winery and from a top vintage for the varietal, this is your lucky day and this is your wine.

·       The Wine Advocate rates the 2010 vintage 95 points or “Outstanding” for Napa Valley Cabernet.

·       This small estate was founded by Randal Towney Bennett and wife Lindsay Marie Bennett, a couple obsessed with wine since they reached the legal age to drink it!

·       Randall is also assistant winemaker at Sojourn Cellars where he spends most of his time while not at work on his own family label.

·       Recently named as one of the “New Stars of California Chardonnay” by the Wine Enthusiast, Towney makes super limited releases of just a handful of wines each vintage.

TASTING NOTES

This is a silky smooth-drinking wine. It is not as robust as your typical Napa Cab. The dark fruit flavors and subtle spice flavors make for an excellent wine that you can pair with food or drink by itself.

*invino maintains excellent cellaring conditions, and strives to sell every bottle in pristine condition. As is standard industry practice, any wine purchased over seven vintage years old, is sold "as is" and may not be returned for any reason.
