When we offered this earlier this year, we knew you’d LIKE it, but not THAT much! A small parcel just landed and well, if you know, you know!
This mountain Cab comes out guns a blazing, as do most of the 2018s (an amazing vintage in Napa) with deep blue fruits, cassis, espresso, mocha and very concentrated (again, like something much pricier!) and packed with blackberry puree and crushed rock, licorice and allspice. The tannic structure and earthy minerality also speak to a wine of a much higher price. Don't confuse this with Vista's less expensive Proprietary Red from Atlas Peak, this is on a whole other level.
Vista Reserve is a collection of small production wines crafted by Grant Long Jr. of Reverie fame. This Atlas Peak Cab comes from the very highest elevations of the AVA, topping out well above 2,000 feet elevation! Wines from here are known to show deeply concentrated mountain flavors with intense earthy minerality due to the very high elevations and rocky red aiken soils….the perfect vine growing scenery to produce ageworthy Cabernet.
So...this will be the last of it! First come, first served…!
