REVIEWS

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations tends to be a mix of four vineyards, two in St. Helena, one in Oakville and one in east Napa. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was bottled unfined and unfiltered, after spending 19 months in 60% new French oak. Production is a modest 1,600+ cases. A brilliant wine from Boisset, it exhibits notes of blackberry and cassis, truffle, chocolate and spice bow. Layered and multidimensional with terrific opulence and purity, this is a “wow” wine, and while drinkable now, capable of evolving for 20 or more years.~Robert Parker, Wine Avocate, 28th Oct 2016

One of the iconic pioneers and historic producers in Napa, this estate was founded by the Raymond family in Rutherford in 1970, although they have been in Napa since the early 1930s. Today, the property is under the ownership of Frenchman and Burgundian, Jean-Charles Boisset, who has committed all of their vineyards (comprising more than 300 acres) to organic, or biodynamic, farming. The quality of the wines has soared under Boisset’s helmsmanship. Much to his credit, Raymond Vineyards has returned to the fold as one of the benchmark, classic estates in all of Napa.

The 2014 Generations is the best I've had to date from Raymond. Sexy, sultry,  & seductive, it's loaded with richness, ripe and dark fruits and tons of complexity. It's layered with blackberries and rich chocolate like a decadent truffle. That toasty coconut is delish mixed in with hints of black pepper but no green bell, excellent quality fruit! I've tasted this with numerous members and they have all loved this wine. Stellar product and highly recommend! Drink now and for many years to come.

This is a juicy and ripe yet structured wine with tremendous grip. Coconut and plum notes meet on the palate, providing deep fruit accented with black pepper and clove.

To put it quite simply: I strongly recommend a case buy on the 2014 Raymond "Generations." It's a broad and mouthfilling bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon made from multiple parcels in St. Helena, Oakville, and Napa.

TASTING NOTES

Generations Cabernet Sauvignon is a striking dark ruby color in the glass and opens with intriguing aromas of blackberry and mocha that are interlaced with coffee and mineral notes.

This is a classically dry wine that displays flavors of blackberry and both red and black currants that are enhanced by a touch of black cherry, ripe tannins and a long, lingering finish. Enjoy this wine over the next 5 to 10 years or stash it in the cellar.

THE STORY TO KNOW

From the Winery:

The grapes for Generations Cabernet Sauvignon are grown in some of the best vineyards and appellations in the Napa Valley. The majority come from two vineyards on the west side of St. Helena known for sandy soils that produce berries with sweet, ripe tannins. The remaining grapes were sourced from a meticulously farmed knoll-top vineyard at the corner of Oakville Cross Road and Silverado Trail. By blending grapes from the St. Helena and Oakville appellations, we are able to make a wine that truly represents the best of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and honors our five generation history of making wine in the Napa Valley.

Raymond Vineyards, founded in 1970, is one of the Napa Valley’s pioneers and great estates. Arriving to Napa in 1933, the Raymond family became deeply connected to the valley’s winemaking origins. In 1970, they established a 90-acre estate in Rutherford that now comprises 300 acres in Rutherford, St. Helena and Jameson Canyon. Five generations of the Raymond family created a Napa icon, with an enduring reputation for elegant wines with a beautiful balance of finesse, power and complexity. Today, inspired by the vision of Proprietor Jean-Charles Boisset, Raymond is a dynamic destination dedicated to inspiring its guests’ passion for fine wine in an environment of exploration, creativity, and elegant whimsicality, where each in a series of diverse experiences progresses visitors into another world of discovery and exceptional wines. Further, Raymond’s Rutherford and St. Helena estate vineyards are certified organic and Biodynamic, and 100% of the winery’s power comes from renewable solar energy.
