"A balanced and juicy red with plums, currants and roasted meat character with hints of espresso bean. Full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Remains subtle and interesting."- James Suckling
'Tis the Season for Awesome Cab.
And that's exactly what you're getting here. St. Clement is a Napa classic that I and many others continue to come back to for consistently great wines. The Oroppas is their most famous label, and they don't cut any corners here.
This is a complex Cab with plum, fresh tobacco and vanilla on the nose. The palate shows a full body with grippy tannins and flavors of ripe blackberry, marionberry, eucalyptus, toasted cedar, and mocha coffee. It flows into a long savory finish. Please, do all your friends a favor. Get them Oroppas. 93 Points - JZ December '17
Grand. Hypnotic. Gripping. Some wines simply command attention. With its blue and black fruit palate highlighted by spice notes and cigar box, St. Clement’s Oroppas Cabernet steals the spotlight every time it enters the room.
And like any seasoned headliner, this wine is as subtle as it is captivating. It the classic, lush mountain fruit structure harnessed to exquisite heights by the masters at St Clement that has us mesmerized. Cabernet from Rutherford, Diamond Mountain, Oakville, and St. Helena joins forces with heady fruit from Mount Veeder for a bottle that encapsulates Napa’s full potential.
Why we love it:
- St. Clement makes a fine Napa Cab. You may have noticed that we’re fans…but their flagship Oroppas is a masterful, next level bottle. It’s sourced from the finest Napa terroirs. Rutherford’s red dust, Diamond Mountain’s altitude, Oakville’s prestige, St. Helena’s robust glory, and Mount Veeder’s structure are all present and standing tall.
- The historic house and grounds of St. Clement are a vision to behold. Founded in 1975 by William Casey who bought the house, the winery is a key stone in Napa Valley. Year in and year out, the loyal following of this standout winery grows. We suspect that has something to do with their incredible and unflinching dedication to expressive Cabernet Sauvignon.
- St. Clement made their first bottling of Oroppas in 1991. With each successive vintage, this flagship style gained in grandeur. Thanks to its Bordeaux styling and jaw dropping structure, St. Clement’s Oroppas is now one of Napa’s proud icons.
- Every lot of Cab is fermented independently. Its purity preserved for 19 months through aging until just before the final blend revealed itself. At the table, with samples of each lot, a precise and tense process unfolds as winemakers endeavor to ensure unfaltering harmony.
From the winery:
Remarkably complex and expressive, the 2013 Oroppas opens with ripe dark blue and black fruit accented by appealing notes of mocha, cedar, and vanilla. The palate is large-scaled and generously showcases a concentrated, sturdy structure with flavors of plum, dark cherry, and mocha.
From the winery:
St. Clement's portfolio of stunning Napa Valley wines is anchored by the flagship Oroppas Cabernet Sauvignon. The first vintage of Oroppas was made in 1991, and over the years, it has become a style icon for St. Clement — a rich, opulent Bordeaux-style blend that emphasizes concentration, depth and velvety tannins.
The key to Oroppas is having a palate of consistent flavor profiles and tannin structures to work for the blend. In addition to our own vineyards, St. Clement has been working for years to build relationships with some of the top winegrowers in Napa Valley's most sought-after sub-appellations, including Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Rutherford and Spring Mountain. Each vineyard brings its own individual qualities to the blend, whether in aroma, structure or depth, but by blending them all together you are left with a wine that is rich and sophisticated.
This rich Napa Cab will taste excellent alongside a hearty steak or a roasted lamb with a side of grilled veggies.
