"Rich in cassis and black peppercorn, grapes for this wine came from Stagecoach Vineyard as well as other Napa Valley superstar sources. It delivers layers of medium-weight blackberry and currant fruit, developed tannins and a signature taste of dusty minerals and rock. Small amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot are blended in." -Wine Enthusiast
The Beauty of Microclimates
It's a term that gets thrown around a lot in the wine world, and for good reason. Individual pockets within a larger area can show a significant difference in their specific climates. Why is this so important? It plays into the notion of terroir, and the idea that the qualities of a wine are (in part at least) a direct product of the vineyard's environment. Some think 2011 was a less-than stellar year, and this may be true in some wines, but not all. RJV's 2011 vintage turned out to be something worth talking about, and I would place that largely as a result of the Stagecoach Vineyard's microclimate. Bottom line, this Cab rocks.
Cinnamon-crusted blackberry pops out on the nose. Medium-full bodied, showing a weighty mouth-feel balanced with tones of cream, dark chocolate, blueberry and acai with a dash of rosemary. Long finish. Drinking well in its window. 92 Points - JZ July '18

Robert John Vineyards’ M.O. is simple, straightforward, and has never served them wrong: they select the best grapes from the most legendary Napa vineyards (we’re talking Rutherford, Stagecoach, D’Ambrosio, the works), and blend them to make complex wine that meets their meticulous standards of excellence.
RJV is a limited production and super boutiquey winery, specializing in the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc made from the finest grapes in Napa to make high quality wines with fantastic ageing potential. The ratings, reviews--and the taste, of course--are enough for anyone sipping these wines to feel that Robert John Nowinski has been well-vindicated in his ambition.
Aromas of dark fruits, white pepper and violets. Flavors of dark chocolate, anise and black currants. Deep, vibrant purple color. Full bodied with polished tannins, long finish and balanced acidity. 2011 was a cooler year with a long growing season. The resulting wine is bold and complex with excellent aging potential.

From the winery:
Robert John Vineyards was founded in 2009 by Robert John Nowinski. Over the years, RJ had developed an appreciation for fine wines; especially California Cabernets. RJ’s deep appreciation for Cabernet wines ignited his creative energies and he formed a desire to create a premium Napa Cabernet that would stand up nicely against the best cult Cabernets produced today.
RJV is a limited production boutique winery located in Napa, California specializing in the highest quality cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc wines. RJV wines are produced in very limited quantities from the finest available grapes every year. The freedom to choose grapes from different vineyards every year allows us to account for seasonal variations in vintages and select the best grapes from the best vineyards to maximize the characteristics of any given vintage. Each wine we produce is different; you won’t find our vintages to be copies of the previous year. Each vintage is unique but shows the consistent characteristics that we bring to our wines that we know you will love.
This rich and intensed flavored cab will pair nicely with a prime rib. Any dish containing beef or venison, even if they are high in fat, will taste amazing alongside this wine.
