Do You Know Where the Grandest Cabs Are From?
Napa of course! It's where Cab is King, as they say. Grand Napa brings us their 2015 Reserve, and it's everything I was hoping for. This wine showcases exactly why Cabernet Sauvignon has earned its prestige in the Napa Valley, and exactly why I picked this one up for release to our members.
Dusty plum on the nose. The palate yields black cherry, plum skin, cassis and tobacco with oaky tannin, all on a full body. It has a smooth finish that lasts a good while. Just now in its drinking window, and can lay down for at least a few years. 94 Points - JZ May '18
The Grand Napa Reserve Cab from 2015 is a stunning example of this small but truly awesome year. Made from prime plots in Napa and from all five of the allowable varieties in Bordeaux, this beauty was aged for 18 months in French oak and designed for both early drinking—with food—or years of cellaring. Ripe with a predominantly cherry-inflected fruit profile, this New World class act is delicately seasoned by its stay in oak with a hint of toasty vanilla on the finish.
· The 2015 vintage for Napa Cab was rated 97 points by the Wine Advocate and 95 points or “Superb” by the Wine Enthusiast.
· Grand Napa Reserve boasts long-standing contracts with premium growers in many of Napa’s top sub regions including Oakville, Rutherford, Spring Mountain and Stags Leap.
· Winemaker Tom Rees enjoyed long stints in the cellars of Charles Krug, St. Supéry and Rombauer, where he honed his talent for small-lot winemaking.
· Taking inspiration from Bordeaux, Rees made this Reserve Cabernet from a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot.
“The 2015 Napa Valley Cabernets I have tasted from barrel so far are positively stunning in their beauty… 2015 is shaping up to be a vintage of opulent, voluptuous wines with real personality and character,” writes Antonio Galloni in Vinous. Galloni is far from alone with Parker, the Wine Spectator and the Wine Enthusiast all aglow on the subject of Napa’s current wowsa year for Cabernet.
Black Cherry and cranberry flavors are complimented by caramelized oak and Christmas spices. A bright beam of red plum persists through the finish.

A rich and hearty dish containing red meat will taste excellent alongside of this robust cab. If you grill or smoke the meat, it will compliment the tannins in the wine and create the perfect flavor profile for your palate.
