The 2011 Marlowe Cellars Cab is made by the same people that brought you The Mastiff Cab a few weeks back, and equally delicious. In classic Alexander Valley fashion, the wine boasts layers of black fruit, some black pepper and leather, baking spice and a bit of bramble on the mid palate. A juicy acidity, smooth tannin and a lengthy finish round out the palate. Enjoy now through 2022. - DZ Jan 2017

Made famous by Silver Oak and Jordan, Alexander Valley is renowned for its elegant, bordeaux-esque CAB drinking pleasures. This wine, from the cooler vintage, delivers all that and more. 100% single-vineyard AVA Cabernet made by the same folks who brought us the Mastiff Cab, a Member fave, which sold out of our warehouse in two days flat. It's what we like to call the hot-ticket item of the day.
Stone fruit, blackberry and French roast coffee aromas are ripe and gooey with bold berry and winter spice notes leading to a palate of dark baking chocolate and more warm clove and cinnamon spice. This Cab is round and smooth in the mouth, with tannins that downright melt on the tongue and end with a lingering, silky impression.
Will the Marlowe go down as the “It Cab” of 2017? Too early to tell, as our Panel will swirl and taste through hundreds of premier Cabs over the next 12 months. It’s already clear, however, that this particular Alexander Valley Cab competes with its famous AV neighbors showing all the hallmarks of an appellation that has been synonymous with luscious Cabernet Sauvignon for the past 40 years.
Reasons why we love it:
Few zones are as perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon than Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. Located at the northern end of the Valley, this AVA runs an impressive 22 miles in length and comprises more than a few distinct microclimates and soil types.
The 2011 vintage was certainly a challenge: inconsistent weather during bud break and the early part of summer created challenging conditions for growers. Reds from 2011 tend to be more elegant and food-friendly than riper vintages, showing more of the hallmarks associated with Old World Cabernets.
Marlowe is produced by The Wine Foundry, a cutting-edge company offering a full range of customized wine services, with a number of award-winning releases under its belt.
On the palate, this Cabernet is rich with sweet, ripe tannins, expanding to a greater breadth of refined textures. The flavor profile includes dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, mocha, leather, brown spice, cedar, vanilla and sweet licorice. The stand out qualities of this wine are its balance, supple texture, approachable grip and earthy notes.
Enjoy this wine with grilled tri-tip, braised short ribs, or pasta with wild mushrooms and prosciutto.
