Cellar Selection -"Such are the tannins in this 100% Cab that it demands cellar time. It’s really shut down and astringent in youth, which emphasizes the dryness. But it’s very fine, with a solid core of ripe black cherry fruit that will express its sweetness when the tannins melt away. Winemaker Amy Aiken is really showing her stuff with this polished ager." -Wine Enthusiast, Dec 2010
"A fantastic cellar worthy experience packed with power and finesse! Meander Morisoli Vnyd 2007 hasn't even tapped into its full potential yet but I love where this wine is going.
The Marisoli Cab just graduated from Harvard and is pursuing a career for the top seat in Washington: meaning it's just beginning to hit its stride. It's wrapped in layers of dark fruit and gorgeous tannins with plenty of fruit and vigor. The solid core of black cherry is laced with layers of cocoa powder, cured meat, balsamic, licorice, roasted herbs and good ol Rutherford Dust! From 100% bench fruit this Morisoli is packed with power, balance and richness, its VERY complex.
This is the wine you'll want to brag about, that no one has, and is made by true icons of the Napa Valley. A private cellar selection that you can only get as an invino member. Shhhh....we are wine countries best kept secret and this is our "bread & butter". Blessed to be a part of it and I know you'll enjoy what this wine has ultimately blossomed into, 96 points thanks to wine evolution. Drink now or watch peak in 1-2 years for the next 5-7. Cellar for up to 10 more years if you choose. So much more interesting than many of those mainstream giants, thanks Amy. (We wish you still made this one.)

Exclusive Rare Library Access. "Beautiful & ultra rare (only 40 cases were made), this is a library offering we secured directly from Joel and Amy Aiken of Meander Wines. They were kind enough to open up their personal cellars to us, where we were able to access all that remains of their illustrious 2007 Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet.
We had the pleasure of meeting with Joel Aiken (the icon with 27 years at BV) for a wonderful afternoon. After touring his new tasting room digs next to Oxbow in downtown Napa (which we strongly suggest you visit next time you're in town!) we sat down to taste through a DYNAMITE row of Napa Cab productions.
This wine here was crafted by Amy Aiken, whom mastered her art at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Cutting her winemaking teeth on the great Cabs that Phelps produced – Backus, Eisele and of course Insignia, it's far from shocking that she went on to become a rockstar Napa winemaker."
Things to Know:
- Everyone is familiar with the legendary 99 point Wine Spectator Cab vintage in Napa, one of the best years ever recorded in the Valley, a Near Perfect Vintage!
- This library cab hasn't even reached it's full potential, it clearly has some time to age and they (Joel & Amy) anticipate it peaking in the next year or two. This wine is meant to age and it will be one of your most prized Napa Cab cellar possessions, PROMISE.
- While this Morisoli Cab is 100% Single Vineyard fruit...Meander's production is exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon from the world renowned Napa Valley. The Napa Cab is a blend of fruit from two historical vineyards, both of which have been family-owned and farmed for generations: Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford and Lewelling Vineyards in St. Helena. These producers are two of the Valley's most sought after by winemakers who craft the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
- Morisoli Vineyard consists of 53 contiguous acres on the famed Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley. Family-farmed for over 100 years, Gary Morisoli is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes on this historic property. The vineyard is predominately planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and the fruit is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Surrounded by Staglin Vineyards, Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Rubicon, Morisoli Vineyard fruit exhibits classic “Rutherford Dust” qualities and rich Cabernet Sauvignon character.
This is a bold yet elegant wine. Hedonistic barely begins to describe the mountains of black plum, wild blackberry, licorice notes and cassis liqueur. Already exhibiting a weighty mid-palate, this wine could be dinner with its chewy unctuous tannins and mouth-coating finish. This is one of those rare Cabernets that will continue to evolve for the next decade.
Going to have to recommend the Rutherford hometown favorite: Rutherford Grill's The Hawaiian Rib-eye steak with pineapple-soy-ginger marinade, Served with seasonal green vegetable. Add a loaded baked potato to complete the ultimate Rutherford experience.
