This first release from the winery is a fine Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Franc. It shows all the hallmarks of a cooler-climate Napa Valley wine in the dryness, refined tannins and herb-inflected cherries and blackberries. An elegant, balanced wine that should develop over the next 5–7 years. -Wine Enthusiast
The Wine Gods Have Treated Virage Well
Their very first vintage, the 2007, has been sitting patiently for 11 years. Now, the time has come to pop open this Napa Valley treasure, and boy oh boy has it been worth the wait. Winemaker Emily Richer is a unique and inspiring individual. Her passion shows in her wine, a passion that will make anyone a fan of Virage.
Light leather & cherry aromas flit from the glass. The palate is full bodied, showing cranberry, blackberry, oak and cassis with a chalky texture. The finish is very pronounced, with an expression of espresso rising up. You can age this one a few years more through 2021, but it's well in its window. Why wait? 94 Points - JZ Sept '18

From the winery:
Sultry aromas prepare the palate for uncommon depth of flavor. Bright cherry mingles with black fruit, plum, and mint, anchored by earthy elements of espresso and graphite. Elegant and balanced. Time in decanter develops the plush texture, showing Cabernet Franc's 1000 threadcount tanin structure. Bittersweet cocoa and mouth-watering minerality linger in the persistent finish.

From the winery:
Virage, a French word meaning 'bend in the road' and 'change in perspective” reflects both our vineyard location, in the cooler northeast corner of Napa Carneros, and a change in winemaking orientation—away from focus on one grape variety, toward a balanced blend that expresses its place, reminiscent of the great wines of the Right Bank of Bordeaux.
