This is a very tasty little blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay from the Loire Valley. Super fresh and lively, almost herbal on the nose, with lots of green apple acidity, a healthy minerality and some light vegetal influence. The texture is dry and fresh with a touch of toast on the finish, definitely a wine you can have with food, although it is quite pleasing all by itself on a hot day. - DZ
Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay
This just in: a new batch of Member favorite bubbles! Our Sourcing Team heard your pleas and brought it back from the Loire, France’s second-largest sparkling producer after Champagne. Amid moated castles, manicured gardens, fruit orchards, and historic cathedrals, the Loire Valley’s vineyards grow Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes that make some of the most elegant bubblies that side of Paris. Fine rivulets of bubbles and floral aromas rise up out of the bottle of the Crémant de Loire “Diamant de Loire,” a blanc brut direct-imported for being as enchanting as the land it comes from; $13 to make a starry-eyed admirer out of any sparkling lover.
Reasons we love it:
• Authentic Local Wines. Les Caves de la Loire is an association of growers who produce premium wines from the classified appellations, special terroir, and excellent climatic conditions of the Loire Valley.
• Shining Example. From calcareous marl soils in the lower Loire’s Anjou region, this wine lives up to its name: literally “the diamond of the Loire.”
• Aromatic & Complex. A blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, this straw-yellow wine starts with a floral nose and subtle toast notes that open into fresh citrus flavors balanced by acidity and minerality.
• Party Prelude. Perfect as a welcome wine at a white-tablecloth reception or an easy sipper at any casual gathering with appetizers, this wine can play it both ways: laidback and refined.
Light straw yellow. Floral fragrance with fresh fruit and subtle notes of toasted almonds. Elegant, fine taste. Complex with fine bubbles. Enjoy it this season or in five years more.
