The Brut Reserva from Maset is a classic example of higher end Cava from Spain, showing a yeasty base and complex tree fruit over plenty of fine bubbles. This tasty discovery is rich in citrus and melon flavors that blend nicely with the subtle toasty notes and dry texture. Nearly a century of tradition sparkles in this excellent Cava Brut Reserva from Bodega Maset. Bubbly ‘til the last drop, this dry, soft, and fruity Cava with a clear straw color and distinctive personality should be raised in celebration – at a wedding, bar mitzvah, the start of a new job or just because it’s Throwback Thursday. The aroma is appropriately toasty and the palate is tasty, nuanced and well-rounded.
Straight from the heart of Spain’s Cava vineyards, NV Maset Cava Brut Reserva is produced in the Penedès region of Catalonia and made from Macabeu, Parellada and Xarel.lo grapes. In the 1860’s, the father of Cava, Josep Raventós i Fatjó traveled to Champagne, France to learn the methóde classique used to create Champagne. Upon his return to Spain, he produced the first Cava. Winemaker Joseph Massana made the first Maset Cava in 1917. By Spanish law, Cava must always be made following the traditional method, le methóde champenoise.
Things to Know:
When the Massana family first planted vineyards at the Maset de Lleó estate in 1777, the land was under the feudal domain of the Abbey of Monserrat. To work the land, they paid a levy to the Abbey. Eventually, they became the owners of Maset and have weathered wars and the devastation of phylloxera while striving to produce quality wines. A strong family business to this day, more than eight generations of the Massana family have been the proud vintners of Maset de Lleó.
