Graves AOC, Bordeaux, France
Finding this property in Graves is no easy feat. There are no fancy signs pointing to Château Ricotte from the roadway and no professionally developed website that point to this estate’s existence or touts the merits of its wine.
The Gabin family, owners of Château Ricotte, spend their time not by marketing the wine they produce on their estate-owned vineyard but by tending to the vines and the cellar. Their 21 hectares are pure Graves terroir, chock full of the region’s classic rocky, walnut-size pebbles. The vineyard is planted primarily to Merlot with about 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and their winemaking technique is traditional aided with modern advances. Grapes are 100% de-stemmed and fermentation and maturation occurs in 100% stainless steel, which makes for an exceedingly fresh and vividly perfumed red Graves full of pure plum and red cherry flavors and ending on a juicy, refreshing note.
· The 2014 vintage, while still young, has already won over the wine press. The Wine Enthusiast bestowed 2014 with a 94-point score for red Graves, the Wine Advocate says 93 points, an “Outstanding” designation for both.
· Château Ricotte is a 21-hectare estate just south of the city of Bordeaux and on the left bank of the Garonne River.
· Though less well known today compared to other Bordeaux appellations, it was Graves that first established Bordeaux’s reputation internationally—as far back as the 12th century.
· The regions gets its name from its gravel-rich soil, which is low in nutrient value and integral to rich, concentrated grape juice.
A medium bodied wine with balanced tanins. Dark fruit as well as ripe cherry flavors combined with earthy spices create a long finish.
Both from an agricultural and viticultural background, our love of land and wine leads us to take over in 1997 this vineyard in the appellation of Graves located in the town of La Brede in Gironde, city of the philosopher Montesquieu.
Requiring a restructuring, it is from 1999 that we market the Château Haut-Reys under our name by crisscrossing France with private sales or directly at the winery with themed sales. And it works ! From tasting to tasting, our product is known and appreciated.
In 2000, our family grew with the birth of our first daughter Marine, a year later with the arrival of a boy Paul, then in 2004 a second daughter Eloise is born.
From year to year, we are also expanding our range of products: the soft (neither dry nor sweet) which is successful, our red wine raised in oak barrel, the dry white also raised in oak barrel and Paumarel which enchants: it's the children's vintage Paul, Marine and Eloise. You will discover from December 2017 the vintage Gabin Graves Red 2015.
Excellent value for money, making it a pleasure wine, unique and appreciated
