Responsible enjoyment of wine is all well and good, and as an eminently responsible purveyor of beverage alcohol, invino totes this party line as sincerely as any brick and mortar or internet outlet out there.

And yet there are times when we suggest living a little…. More! An idea shared by the folks at SLO Down Wines, makers of this overtly suggestive red blend. As in past vintages, this 2016 Sexual Chocolate is a combination of two of California’s sexiest grapes. First, take Syrah. A spicy, rich and dark-chocolate scented varietal that makes a voluptuous, velvety wine. Add Malbec—arguably the “manliest” of grapes, which gives this wine an intensity and muscle-bound structure. The result is a bold and decidedly full-bodied red that might be considered a meal in itself, though it’s also a fitting bedmate for hamburgers cooked rare and topped with thick slices of raw red onion.

·    A highly successful vintage, 2016 was rated 94 points for most red varietals throughout Northern California’s main wine regions.

·    Winemaker Brandon Allen made his first barrel of wine as a freshman in college at San Luis Obispo, CA, and has dedicated himself to oenology ever since.

·    Napa’s SLO Down Wines was established in 2008, with the first release being just 93 cases of Sexual Chocolate—an instant success.

·    For this Syrah and Malbec blend grapes are sourced throughout California with an eye toward intense and perfectly ripe, juicy fruit.

TASTING NOTES
