With 95 and 94 point marks, this tiny production, completely off-the-radar, family-made cabernet franc left us stunned! Authentic, balanced, and simply delicious cabernet franc for one exceptional price!

People know that Washington does wonders with syrah, merlot, and cab, but what about cab franc? You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Washington state is one of our favorite up-and-coming regions for wine, but in the last 20 years or so they’ve really come into their own. And one of the state’s best appellations for winemaking is Red Mountain. The appellation slogan is even “home to Washington’s best wine grapes”. That’s a big tagline to live up to, but they just might be right.

Hamilton Cellars was founded by Stacie and Russ Hamilton in 2006, but the brand only took shape of its current form 10 years ago. They bought vineyard property atop Red Mountain, where they built a tasting room, and enlisted respected grower Dick Boushey to help develop the land into world-class wine grapes. The other magician in this award-winning recipe is winemaker Charlie Hoppes, formerly of Chateau St. Michelle, Col Solare, and Fidelitas). His stellar winemaking pedigree along with Dick’s viticultural prowess has created a phenomenal wine that we LOVE drinking – and the best part is that price! Under $30 is a steal – but when you slice that by over half on all 3+ bottle purchases?! That, we can’t believe. It tastes too good to be so affordable!

This cab franc is from quite a tiny production. Only 154 cases of this were made. And it’s won a host of awards, including 95 points and Double Gold from the Pacific Northwest Wine Competition, 94 points (and another gold) from Sunset’s International Wine Competition, and then Platinum at the Great Northwest Platinum Invitational wine competition! This tiny, off-the-path producer hasn’t gotten their name on the list of the big critic databases just yet, but one sip in and we just know – they are well on their way! It’s all blackberry cobbler, licorice, smoke, and graphite that piles on the complex layers at each sip, with a just perfect hint of that classic cabernet franc green spiciness. There’s even a round, lush chocolate note that gets us every time. The tannins are firm and add muscularity to the wine, making it long-lived. We LOVE this wine. And we LOVE the price! It doesn’t get any better than this. For under $15 each on 3+, buy this by the case-full. Your cellar will thank you!

About the Producer

Hamilton Cellars was born in the Spring of 2006; Stacie and Russ Hamilton had a dream to start a winery opening a tasting room in Richland in 2006. In 2014 they secured vineyards on Red Mountain and built a tasting room. Famed grape grower Dick Boushey planted and manages the estate vineyard and Seattle Magazine 2013 Washington Winemaker of the Year Charlie Hoppes (Chateau Ste. Michelle, Col Solare, Fidelitas) anchors the winemaking. The wines are vibrant, plush, and long lived.
