Vivanco Parcelas de Garnacha Rioja 2016
Grenache | Spain
Vivanco Winery is a Rioja-based staple that has been producing wines for over a century. This warm, rich, and spicy garnacha is a wonder – and with both 94 POINTS, and a special Invino price of Under $30 – a wine not to be missed!
This 100% garnacha is simply classic – with the floral perfume of lilacs and lavender, and the red berry notes of strawberries and raspberries, all woven together with earthy spice and roasted herb accents that make it a ripe comparison for Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The high tones of Rioja’s elevated vineyards make it distinct, however, and the 18 months of French oak aging give this a velvety smoothness. It’s soft, bright, and downright sexy stuff – and for OVER $50 below retail – this 94-point garnacha beauty needs a spot on your table!
It was back in 1915 that Pedro Vivanco Gonzalez laid the roots of Vivanco Winery in the heart of Rioja. His sons, Santiago and Rafael, grew the vineyard and winery, and each generation has pushed and augmented the winery’s growth ever since. A combination of evolving innovation in the cellar, with a safeguarding of heritage techniques along the way has kept the winery in its place of prominence, as a top producer in all of Rioja. If Tim Akin and Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate agree on 94-point scores for your wine – you must be doing something right! We tasted this (and then tasted it again) and can certainly confirm…this is one heck of a wine and an incredible price you’ll only see here on Invino!
