Don’t get us wrong…we love cabernet sauvignons from Napa, pinots from Santa Lucia, chardonnays from the Sonoma Coast...but! We just FLIP for discoveries like this – new wines, old vines, from remote regions, with cool people, fantastic 95 POINT scores, and more...all at this epic price! This is the perfect red to explore a new corner of the wine world – our personal motto for 2024.

This Vigno red from the Maule Valley snagged 95 POINTS from the good folks at the Wine Advocate and frankly, we couldn’t agree more. Deep, wildly complex, and drinkable, with an exhilarating range of flavors going on that must be experienced to be appreciated fully!

Carignan, syrah, and chardonnay (yes, chardonnay… just a pinch, but WOW, what it does!), 65+-year-old head-pruned vineyard in the Maule Valley south of Santiago in the foothills of the Andes. This winery is getting major buzz (Google ‘em), and we love how they just go for it – embracing innovation, unique varietals, red/white blends, and myriad vessels (clay amphorae, steel tank, concrete egg, ceramic, and more…) – these folks are the cutting edge of winemaking for Chile, and man, they’re good!

But this wine...oh, baby! Smoked chocolate, lavender, crushed plums, roasted sweet herbs, blackberries with a squeeze of flowery extract, and lemon juice on top...yes! Toasted vanilla bean too, and even honeysuckle, and lychee, with some peach notes, added to all that darker fruit and spice. So very cool, and so very good! Under $20? We said 95 POINTS, right? Load up on this!

95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2018 Vigno from Morandé comes from Santa Elena de Comahue in Loncomilla (Maule) and follows the line of the excellent 2017 with peachy aromas and flavors. It matured in 4,000-liter oak foudres for 20 months and has good contained ripeness and a soft texture, round tannins and good balance and freshness. 8,800 bottles were filled in December 2019.
