Perelada Cava Stars Touch of Rose Brut 2020
Red Blends | Spain
We’re Champagne heads, for sure, but after Champagne, we love us some Cava. Also made in the traditional method, with a second fermentation inside the bottle, Cava’s zippy acid profile and fruit-forward flavors, and BONKERS pricing just make us swoon! This AWESOME Perelada is under $15, was rated 90 points, is a rosé, so it’s pink, one of our favorite colors (the others being red and white), and it has bubbles. This wine could do no wrong in our book, even if it tried. The time is NOW for you to add it to your collection of awesomely delicious bubbly.
Castillo Perelada, the producer, has been making wine since the Middle Ages. It’s no wonder they’ve learned to perfect their winemaking, which is very apparent in this bottle of Cava. But the cool thing about Perelada having made wine that long is that they’ve documented everything – they’re a veritable wine museum in their own right, with a library that documents sales and history of the estate. Perelada’s modern era began in 1923 in the region of Emporda, which is where Perelada resides and has been transformed because of the estate.
We’ve direct imported Perelada for years because we absolutely LOVE their wines. They farm organically and make this, one of our favorite sparkling wines, from non-traditional Cava grapes – mostly grenache and a touch of pinot noir! And man, does it ever rock. First of all, the grenache vines are old vines, so there’s a more concentrated flavor profile to the fruit that gives it more dimension than you see in a lot of sparkling, and then, just a kiss of pinot, to add the finesse. This rosé KILLS it – with a nose that’s full of strawberries, cherries and rose petals, as well as watermelon and pink flowers. And for something so inexpensive, it has a surprising amount of length on the palate. We just can’t say enough about this wine and all its merits. If you miss out on this last call, summer will never forgive you. This is one of the best in the biz – and you need it.
