Domaine Bernard Fleuriet Sancerre Blanc La Baronne 2021
Sauvignon Blanc | France
Sancerre just might be the world’s hottest wine region at the moment. In the last decade alone, these wines have become impossibly hard to find, with the best estates often fetching prices more in line with premier cru White Burgundy. We’re thrilled to have found this single vineyard sauvignon blanc at the very best price in the USA — over 35% off!
Domaine Fleuriet is a relatively new producer for the region, with their holdings extending back to just 1991. They’ve accomplished wonders in a short few decades, with 20 hectares of prime Sancerre plots, on a sloping hillside loaded with the region’s revered flint and limestone soils. Previous vintages of this wine have fared well with the critics — consistently earning 93-point scores over the last several vintages. No scores yet on this beauty, but with the success of the 2021 growing season in Sancerre...we expect at least a 93, and maybe more!
This is a layered, complex, and weighty expression of sauvignon blanc — crisp and bright — but also round and creamy. The wine ages in barrel on the lees for nearly a year, adding a silky texture and polished finish to the bright citrus and tropical notes of the wine. Floral aromas of honeysuckle join notes of ripe navel oranges, lemon meringue, and brûléed grapefruits. Accents of Tahitian vanilla and cardamom give a soft spiciness to the finish, making for an elegant and velvety sauvignon blanc that will bring a smile to any white wine lover’s face. A simply fantastic white and a next level find...for as long as we have it at least!
