Yao Ming Family Table Napa Valley 2018
Red Blends | United States
Yao Ming was a towering icon in the NBA, not to mention a Chinese national treasure. He fell in love with wine whilst living in the States and started his own label. He used his fame to get access to some of the top vineyards and vintners in Napa Valley, and this gorgeous 93 POINT red blend is the happy result!
Made from equal parts petit verdot, zinfandel, and syrah, this is a rich, spicy, and structured red blend that achieves impressive balance and a vast array of flavors and nuance. Black cherries, black raspberries, cocoa powder, iron ore, sweet pipe tobacco, and a peppery spice make up just a fraction of the components here, with a fine but persistent tannin structure that bodes a decade-plus of development to come. UNDER $30 makes this a steal not to be missed – a towering, seven-foot-six-inch-tall deal that will dominate the key for years!
Yao Ming’s wines will often fetch thousands of dollars on the black market in China, and having a bottle on your table is considered the ultimate flex as a host – perhaps second only to First Growth Bordeaux. But here in the States, we love this because it is just a unique, and remarkably delicious wine – that we just so happened to get for the best price ANYWHERE! Grab a few of these while we got them – just a treat and a tale all wrapped in one!
