The Jacumin family makes some of our favorite wines in the Rhone (and they’re just the BEST people)! The “Les Bedines” Cotes du Rhone is one of the best values anywhere – at just $14.95 – you’re gonna want to back the truck up on this deal!

Jacumin “Les Bedines” — BABY CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE, really — with an average age of 40-year-old vines and located just down the road from the legendary Chateau Rayas, and born from the same sandy and pebble-laden soils, all fermented and aged in Chateauneuf’s classic concrete tanks. It’s a beauty, no question, especially at our price!

Jacumin – the husband/wife-run producer you know and love, yes! We last saw Albin and Agnés in February, tasting the new releases, plus some epic barrel sampling, before Agnés whisked us away in her van to show us these spectacular vineyards, just as the sun was going down. (We capped off the night with her making us a fantastic dinner, and Albin showing off his unreal collection of post-dinner digestifs)! Everything they make is incredibly focused, taut, and almost ethereally elegant. They showcase the more delicate possibilities of Southern Rhone, and these are some of the best food wines anywhere!

This beauty really packs in tremendous flavor, with a hugely aromatic incense-like fragrance of kirsch, lavender, licorice, violets, toasted peppercorns, black cherry pie, and chicory...wow!! So much going on for a wine at this price point….the texture is lip-smacking, fresh but juicy, and really holds onto your mouth. Generous, soft tannins, but a really lovely balance. A GREAT non-heavy, complex, delicious red to drink anytime, all the time. 80% grenache, 15% syrah, 5% carignan, and 150% ready to get opened and shared and loved. This is case-worthy, for certain. While it lasts, friends!

About the Producer

The Jacumin family has been involved in winemaking in the region for almost 120 years. The domaine was founded in 1991, and the first vintage was released in 1995. They own 19 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape -- 25 hectares are reserved for their white Chateauneuf du Pape, and 6 hectares of vines are in the Cotes du Rhone appellation. La Begude is produced from Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault. The Grenache vines are more than 50 years of age, and the vines are planted in the les Brusquieres lieu-dit, which is a mix of rocks, stones and limestone soil.
