Ah, the south of France. The land of lavender fields, Breton stripes, pink sunsets, and…pink wine! But not just any pink wine – the best pink wines in the world hail from this idyllic, sunny region in the Mediterranean. And here, you can’t go wrong – we’ve got the hookup on an under $10 rosè wine that will be your summer sipper for life! You want in? We know you do!
Villa des Anges is situated in Capestang, northwest of the town of Beziers in southern France in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Vins de Pay. The villa sits on old Roman ruins and is owned by Jacqueline Menard de Ginestous, a woman of status from a prominent Languedoc wine family. The soils that surround the property are clay and limestone, as well as alluvial ones. On the 173 planted acres, Villa des Anges is planted to about 57% red varieties and 43% white, and those varieties run the gamut from cabernet and cinsault to chardonnay and viognier.
Jeff Carrel is the current winemaker here. He studied enology in the Loire, Alsace, and Languedoc, and was even a Technical Director for a Bordeaux winery before assuming the helm at Villa des Anges. With this wine, Jeff created a 100% cinsault rosè that’s crisp, clean, and lean, with fresh wild strawberries and rhubarb on both the nose and the palate. There are also melons, white flowers, cherries, and lively acidity. It’s truly a joy to drink and is a refreshing, cooling palate cleanser, porch pounder, or whatever-you-want-to-do-with-it vino. For under $10 – THIS is a damn good wine. We’ve already bought two cases. Now, it’s your turn!
