Churchill Wine Fountaingrove District Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Cabernet Blends | US
Churchill Wine’s newest 2019 comes from the relatively unknown Fountaingrove District AVA – just on the southwestern slopes of Napa’s prestigious Diamond Mountain, and only about a mile from that AVA’s boundary line. High elevations and stress-inducing soils make for a concentrated and structured cabernet...that we just so happened to score for 55% OFF the retail price!
Hailing from a 15-acre site at 1300 feet in the shadow of Diamond Mountain, this vineyard showcases the perfect terroir for mountain-grown Bordeaux varietals. This tiny parcel – only 25 cases TOTAL (!) was brought our way a few weeks back and we snagged everything we could! Made by Steve Heller of Sonoma’s H.L.R. Winery, this was a pleasant surprise – offering traces of Diamond Mountain’s depth, concentration, and unmistakable mineral edge – counter-balanced by the cooler, softer nature of Sonoma’s more pronounced maritime influence.
This 100% cabernet sauvignon delights with deep and ripe blackberries, cherries, and black raspberries, with cool black licorice, cedar planks, and heady clove notes. The mouth is voluptuous and muscular, with sweet chocolate and soft tannins that extend into a pleasing finish. This drinks like a young Diamond Mountain – without the hefty $150+ price tag! At a killer 55% OFF, this is one you won’t want to miss!
