A 95-point score and under $20 sounds like something from an episode of Punk’d, but alas, it’s an episode of INVINO’s BEST! From the black earth slopes of Mount Etna, this is an Italian wine not to be missed. You probably know by now, but mountain wines are kinda our thing. The high elevation and hyper-concentration of these wines make us salivate. And that’s exactly what you’re gonna get with this wine.

At 2,000 feet above sea level, on the steep volcanic terraces of a VERY active volcano – the grapes for this wine grow. This Etna Rosso is composed of 90% nerello mascalese and 10% nerello cappuccio – both local Sicilian varieties that you don’t really find anywhere else in the world. There’s the red floral notes of Burgundy, the meaty savoriness and black and blue fruits of Northern Rhone, and the graphite minerality of Bordeaux. It’s THAT complex but without the price tag of ANY of those aforementioned wines.

We have to admit, this producer is pretty elusive – we know next to nothing about the them – just being transparent. But sometimes, those are the best kinds of producers who are hiding the most incredible wines! This is one of those. When we tasted this, it absolutely blew our minds, and it’s gonna rock your palate to the core. It’s rich and mineral-driven, high-toned, yet substantial – low alcohol, but warming and spicy instead of cool and thin. How? We’ve got no idea, but with this wine, we learned to stop asking questions and just accept. Aromas of candied violets, espresso, and dusty roses...flavors of black cherries, ripe peaches, dragon fruit, blackberry compote, with accents of spearmint, iron-ore, black pepper –yeah, it’s got a LOT of stuff going on...all of it good. Better than good. Monumental. Back up the truck on this one, folks. WOW!
