Winemaker Bret Urness is an avowed disciple of Sine Qua Non, Jonata, and Ballard Canyon – basically, the greatest modern producers of California’s central coast, and this wine fits that style PERFECTLY. Heady, electric, uber-rich, and INKY, plush goodness through and through. Mixed berry pie, thyme, sage, blueberries, smoked meats, black pepper...all things BIG, BAD, and BOLD. 78% petite sirah, 18% grenache, 3% roussanne, 1% syrah make up this modern blend, and believe us when we tell you, it just pulses with deep, intense power, and bold flavors.

Jeb Dunnuck calls this “big, rich, stacked Petite Sirah,” and he’s not wrong. Definitely not-for-the-shy! But for all that, it is impeccably balanced, even nimble on its feet. Quite the achievement for petite sirah, and one that announces Bret as a worthy acolyte of the modern Paso Robles style. 

He didn’t have the grades to get into a winemaking program at Cal-Poly, so if he was going to make it, his grit, passion, and fearless approach were going to have to get it done. After home winemaking in Idaho and harvests in Portugal, he settled in Paso Robles and built the Levo brand from scratch. He secured fruit from Stolpman, Ballard Canyon, Kimsey, and some others of Santa Barbara’s best sites, making all his wines by hand, and covering all aspects of his brand – from creating these amazing one-off labels to handling customer service and direct sales...he just HUSTLES.
