Vina Cobos Cabernet Sauvignon Felino Mendoza 2019
Cabernet Blends | Argentina
By now, Paul Hobbs and Argentinian Malbec is a famous combination. Yet his notoriety was achieved first and foremost with top-notch cabernet sauvignon in Napa Valley. This remarkable wine unites his adopted Argentina with the grape that first brought him to superstardom...all for UNDER $15!!!
"Felino" means “feline”, and this wine embodies the same sort of casual elegance as a cat in its comfort zone. The wine is juicy throughout, with a demonstrative mid-palate filled with blackberry, red currant, and fresh-cut grass. The finish turns spicy with notes of white pepper, star anise, and Christmas spices. For a wine with minimal oak use, it surprises with a layered complexity not typically seen at this price point.
Grapes are sourced from high-altitude sites in the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, at elevations between 2,306 and 3,927 feet. These hand-harvested grapes are fermented with selected and native yeasts in 8 and 17-ton closed-top stainless steel tanks. Following a gentle, gravity-fueled racking, the wine is matured in just less than 10% new oak barrels for nine months prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered. A pure, varietal expression of top-notch cabernet sauvignon in the hands of a master of the grape – all for $11.95!?!? Just spectacular! Don't miss!
