Double 97 and double 96 scores...not to mention Wine Spectator’s #5 Wine of 2012. Here’s the deal...$127.80 on a 4-pack DELIVERED. AMAZING!

We know this wine rocks because as I type, every single co-worker is filling up their OWN cellars with these goodies! So, what’s the mind-melting deal today, you ask? Well, you guys are all savvy enough to know the legendary Chateau Guiraud (more on the estate below), but we had a little meeting in France last spring and purchased as much as possible direct from the Chateau. 2009! 97 points from Vinous and Master of Wine Tim Akin, plus double 96 points from Wine Spectator and James Suckling! Do what you must to get some, ‘cause this can’t possibly stick around. Drink it this holiday season, or drink it when your kids turn 21! Or 41, for that matter! This is a timeless beauty built to last.

The history of this great estate begins in 1766 and spans the centuries, though it may be argued that they were more widely known for their political/religious statements than their wines throughout the 18th century. They were among a scant few Protestant-owned Chateaus that refused to align with the majority of French wineries that backed Rome and the Catholic Church. They adopted their iconic label of black and gold as a symbol of their defiance – and support of Napoleon over the Pope. In the early 1980s, Xavier Planty arrived, and the quality, reputation, and consistency of this estate have been on the rise ever since. They have farmed organically since the mid-90s, created a conservatory of over 135 unique clones of semillon and sauvignon blanc to aid in the re-planting of their estate vineyards, and focused on creating a diverse and thriving estate in an effort to increase the quality of their wine.

2009 was the best vintage since the astounding 2001s, and this wine is still just a baby. But what a beautiful baby – and we’re not just saying that to be polite. Beautifully intoxicating sensations of wild honey, dried apricots, apple pie, orange marmalade, pineapple, and ginger – at once deliciously sweet without being cloying – harmoniously balanced with electric acidity and a long, spicy finish. This wine is just entering the prime of its life, with the oak notes blending in seamlessly to amplify the fruit rather than compete with it, but given the quality of this vintage, you can expect this prime window to continue for another twenty years...easily! Just awesome. This is the kind of thing every wine lover needs in their house at the ready...for a delightful sip of something sweet when the moment calls for it. Just perfect for drinking, celebrating, cellaring, and gifting! IN STOCK, READY TO GO. First come, first served…!

97 Vinous -
The 2009 Guiraud is one of the gems of Sauternes this vintage, one of the finest offerings in recent years. It has a wonderful, beautifully delineated bouquet with expressive scents of wild honey, orange pith, Seville orange marmalade and just a hint of pineapple. The palate is beautifully defined with pure botrytised fruit, supremely well balanced with a vivacious, ginger and white pepper tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. Outstanding.

96 James Suckling -
Gorgeous aromas of dried apricots, apple pie crust and pineapple. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness. Dense and layered. Beautiful now but will improve with age. Drink or hold.
96 Wine Spectator -
This is a bird of a different feather, with an exotic, vibrant aroma of toasted coconut, followed by an almond cream note that gives way to the core of green fig, papaya, Cavaillon melon and honey. There's stunning richness and mouthfeel, with the power to be one of the longer-lived wines of the vintage. Very impressive. Best from 2015 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 11,000 cases made.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 Guiraud comes sashaying out of the glass with a wonderfully floral nose of jasmine and peach blossoms with an undercurrent of potpourri, dried mango, honey nut, baked pineapple and preserved ginger. The mouth is completely coated with concentrated baking spice and savory layers countering all the rich sweetness, finishing long and layered.
94 Wine Enthusiast -
This is a smoky, rich wine that shows evident wood aging. This feature adds weight, though the sweetness is currently muted. It is a wine with potential intensity; the fruit and acidity will emerge in several years. *Cellar Selection*
