$14!!! We swear, as we tasted this bottle, knowing nothing about it, we were guessing $30-$40 retail. This has structure, minerality and DEPTH to spare! Plenty of juicy, ripe, and unctuous berry fruits, a kiss of toasted baking spices and roasted herbs, and way more complexity than anyone could rightly expect given the price. The finish is long, savory, and polished – holding fast for a solid thirty seconds of vinous delight.

In 2010, Odile and Thierry Bazin fulfilled their dreams, left their corporate firms behind and jumped feet first into the wine industry (Odile’s twin, Jacques, owns the Labrousse estate next door). From select plots on their Terre-Blanque estate on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, facing the Médoc, this merlot and cabernet blend hails from soils of white limestone topped with bits of red clay and chalky gravel. These mineral-driven soils provide both the backbone, as well as the pronounced ripeness of the Chateau La Roche Bazin bottling.

Still new to Bordeaux, this is a rising star that can’t possibly stay this price for long. FOURTEEN DOLLARS! Get it while it lasts!

92 James Suckling -
Ripe, fruity character to this red with notes of black cherries, plums, cocoa nibs and licorice. Medium-to full-bodied with plush, lightly chewy tannins and a velvety mouth-feel. Long, savory aftertaste. Merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Needs two or three years to soften. Try after 2024.
