Bodega Mauricio Lorca Gran Lorca Poetico Reserve Malbec Mendoza 2010
Other Reds | Argentina
Some days, it’s pretty easy to love your job. When you come in to taste a perfectly aged malbec that is being offered at an unreal price is certainly one of those days. This single vineyard malbec hails from the revered Vista Flores vineyard, a few thousand feet up in the Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Winemaker Mauricio Lorca, deftly blends in 7% cabernet sauvignon and 3% syrah, lending a structure and depth that has kept this wine humming along for over a decade. It’s drinking flawlessly as of this morning, but has plenty of structure to spare should you decide to keep it another 5 years still.
Intoxicating aromas of pomegranate tea, blackberry cobbler, graphite, and evergreen forest floor. In the mouth, the bright fruit characteristics of red currants, bing cherries and fig compote are layered with complementary notes of sage, black pepper, and shaved, dark chocolate. The tremendous undercurrent of acidity and mineral freshness carry the wine into a long and dry finish. This is a revelation of quality malbec and its ability to develop and enhance in complexity over time.
Where else can you find all that for $12? We’ve only got a handful of these, and the buzz is already reverberating through the office. Don’t miss this one...!
