Cline Cellars Heritage Zinfandel Contra Costa 2018
Other Reds | US
Just think for a second…when these vines were planted, the Wright Brothers were working on an idea out in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. A little known company called Ford was fine-tuning the notion of an assembly line. And Portuguese and Italian immigrants were tending to a few vineyards out in the sandy soils of Contra Costa. Wine, truly, is living history.
Of course, it only means something to us if the wine is delicious too. Luckily, this wine is SPECTACULAR! Ripe, chewy, brandied cherries and bright summer strawberries meet minty, cigar-box spices and an intensely structured finish. Under $20 for an own-rooted, ancient-vined piece of vinous history?!?! Well, that kind of deal reminds me of when McDonald’s cheeseburgers were only 39 cents.
Vines this old don't produce much in the way of yield, so needless to say, we don't have much... Grab a few bottles of history while you can!!
