Just think for a second…when these vines were planted, the Wright Brothers were working on an idea out in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. A little known company called Ford was fine-tuning the notion of an assembly line. And Portuguese and Italian immigrants were tending to a few vineyards out in the sandy soils of Contra Costa. Wine, truly, is living history.

Of course, it only means something to us if the wine is delicious too. Luckily, this wine is SPECTACULAR! Ripe, chewy, brandied cherries and bright summer strawberries meet minty, cigar-box spices and an intensely structured finish. Under $20 for an own-rooted, ancient-vined piece of vinous history?!?! Well, that kind of deal reminds me of when McDonald’s cheeseburgers were only 39 cents.

Vines this old don't produce much in the way of yield, so needless to say, we don't have much... Grab a few bottles of history while you can!!

About the Producer

Cline Cellars has been family ran and operated since 1982 with one of the original Rhone rangers, Fred Cline. Fred made his first vintage with original plantings of Mourvedre, Zinfandel and Carignane with some dating back to 1880's. Fred and Nancy moved their winery to Sonoma in 1989 when they purchased a 350 acre horse farm in Carneros. They have continued to plant vineyards throughout Sonoma County and work with varieties like Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Mourvedre, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay.
