Domaine Besson Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru 2018
Chardonnay | France
In the world of great Chablis, pricing that starts with a “2” that isn't three figures is a rare beast indeed - especially with a sweet score like this! We had to check our numbers several times...but it’s real...as long as it lasts that is! If you love crisp, minerally chardonnay as much as we do, you better be snagging some with a quickness.
Winemaker Camille Besson (daughter of Alain and 4rd generation winemakers since 1902) leads the winemaking at this family-run winery, and they are on a qualitative roll, creating textbook Chablis that can stand toe to toe with the best of the region.
Because of its south and east exposure, Vaillons mostly enjoys morning sun. Its shallow soil lets the grapes ripen quickly. The subsoil displays a high concentration of Kimmeridgian limestone with some very compact slabs in some places. The result is outstanding beyond a doubt: controlled balance, intense aromas, elegance and mineral tension — all the necessary ingredients to make Vaillons a great Chablis.
