Revolve Pinot Noir Russian River 2015
Pinot Noir | US
The team of Daniel Nice and Scott Sporte are the combined braintrust and muscle behind Revolve’s micro-productions of cabernet, pinot, petite sirah and rosé crafted from select vineyards in the North Bay. The name, “Revolve” stems from their hands-on process of fermenting whole berries in the same barrels the wine ages in. To dispel excess carbon dioxide during fermentation, they frequently roll and spin the barrels by hand in a pattern akin to spinning a top. This artisan (not to mention arduous) process helps to create beautifully aromatic wines that dance seductively across the tongue.
The 2015 vintage showcases a drought-driven intensity that pairs ripe red fruits with notes of saddle leather, cola, and fresh pipe tobacco. Do we detect cranberry? Lingonberry jam? Raspberry coulis? All of the above, perhaps? The end result is an inherently powerful, undeniably Russian River pinot noir that has softened over a few years in bottle, adding on grace and elegance without sacrificing structure.
Trust me, and don’t let this one pass you by!
