The Vice Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford V2 2018

It’s a rare day when we can scoop up Rutherford cab like this at such crazy good prices, but being locals here in Napa does have its occasional perks! This wine hits all the marks for classic Rutherford cabernet, and of the three versions of this cabernet that Vice makes (based solely on the same wine aged for three different periods in barrel), this is our personal Goldilocks’ just right! At 18 months, the oak is certainly there to frame those classic dusty cherry and berry notes, without becoming a nuisance.

Vice Wines is a relative newcomer to the valley, founded by husband-and-wife team Malek Amrani and Tori Greenberg. Winemaker Malek Amrani is originally from Morocco, a successful entrepreneur, a level 3 sommelier, and a 2019 Team USA Triathlon athlete to boot! Having now turned their sights to wine, they have gone “all-in” with a diverse portfolio of offerings from across the valley.

The wine, you ask? Lush, sweet and bright red currants, red-fruit jam, dark cocoa, earth and cigar box, and just a touch of, yes, that famous Rutherford Dust. Utterly perfect-drinking at this stage, but will easily age into 2026 and beyond, if you’re so inclined, so grab a few extra for the cellar. At $33.95??! A steal. At $29.95 per on six? Utter larceny, I say! Go, go, GO!
