Galadino Primitivo Salento 2020

Wow, a simply stunning little score on our part... Get it while you can! Primitivo, when it comes to grape DNA, is almost exactly the same as the better-known Zinfandel grape here in the USA. It’s an ancient varietal, and uniquely suited to the hot, dry climate in Puglia, Italy. So – while our “Zin” is typically sweeter and jammier, this delicious version from Galadino is ZESTY, fresh, juicy, packed with bright red fruits, and basically full of soul and everything you love about well-priced Italian reds. 98 POINTS! Hard to believe for $12.95, but you’ll know why once you taste it!

The vines and the grapes that produce this wine are uniquely trained by the "Alberello" method. This method of training has ancient origins in the Mediterranean which was developed to compensate for the lack of water and very hot climate. This is a very important tradition and cultural heritage of Puglia. The wine is hand picked, destemmed, goes through meticulous selection, slow maturation in French oak barrels, and results in an outstanding full-bodied wine with soft tannins.

This is also made using the Appassimento method, an ancient Italian tradition of naturally drying the bunches, with the resultant raisined grapes producing a greater concentration of flavors, and a rich, ripe and luscious wine exuding ripe dark raspberry, brighter blueberry with whiffs of licorice and cherry.
