Cabernet Franc  |  France

Ground shipping included on orders of 6 bottles or more!

Cabernet franc is having a much-deserved moment right now, with prices here in Napa Valley exceeding the price per ton of cabernet sauvignon, and demand globally at an all-time high. But this – organically farmed, 100% cabernet franc – for under $20? We frankly can't get enough and this fantastically fresh bottle kicks our palates into overdrive!

Located on the banks of the Vienne River, the 19.5-hectare Wilfrid Rousse estate was started in 1987 by Wilfrid and his wife, Annie. With a myriad of plots and exposures throughout the estate, all sharing the classic siliceous clay soils of the western side of Chinon, this estate displays the finesse and subtlety that cabernet franc can have when grown in the right hands. 30+ year-old vines lend a definitive character to the wine – ethereal and delicate, yet layered and complex. The cooler climate emphasizes the grape’s signature raspberry, cherry, and pepper leaf, with a lingering spice box quality in the finish. The wine is supple and elegant, with some floral notes of lavender and crushed violets, turning to cranberry, new leather, and green peppercorn.

A great one to drink with spring dishes and summer grilling fare – such as lamb chops with peas, grilled salmon and some fresh herbs, roasted beet salad with citrus and goat cheese, grilled chicken and veggies off the BBQ – and so much more! This is a gourmand’s delight – bright, clean, and juicy with lip-smacking acidity. Did we mention 43% off? While it lasts!

About the Producer

In a former farmhouse in the hamlet of La Halbardiere, the Domaine of Wilfrid Rousse is marked by a signature weathervane depicting a mermaid holding in his hand a fish. This historic symbol once donned the roofs of the nearby medieval castle in Savigny-en-Véron; a 17th century property that served as the residence of Admiral and Governor of Acadia Claude de Launay-Razilly. Legend has it that the Admiral, nostalgic for his naval conquests past, installed this unique figurine. Today, Wilfrid Rousse extends over 19.5 hectares between the municipalities of Savigny-en-Véron, Beaumont-en-Véron and Chinon. It is composed of 18 hectares of Cabernet Franc plantings, which are transformed into the Domain’s cuvées of red and rosé wines.
