One of the “secrets” about Clark-Claudon is the fact that Tom Clark is one of Napa Valley’s oldest and most respected vineyard managers. Since the early 80s, they have worked with Duckhorn, St. Supery, Spottswoode...just to name a few. In 1993, they purchased a pristine plot of land on Howell Mountain (800-1200 ft. elevation), and began making tiny quantities of VERY high-end Cabernet. Another secret weapon is huge scoring rockstar winemaker, Jean Hoefliger (Alpha Omega, The Debate, and many more). All this, plus the fantastic 2018 vintage in Napa, adds up to a STELLAR buy for Invino clients, any way you slice it!!

Howell Mountain power with Jean’s signature polished tannin is the order of the day, with tiers of violets, wild crushed blackberry, licorice, sweet tobacco, cigar box and mountain minerality...just a heady experience. Drinks like something MUCH pricier, for sure, and lingers forever. In this great vintage, this is a keeper for the cellar -- a decade at least!

About the Producer

"Tom Clark and Laurie Claudon began their story in 1974, both graduates of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Peace Corps volunteers who set their sights on Napa Valley. Tom first worked for Souverain Management Company developing vineyards all over the valley. Four years later, Tom founded Clark-Vineyard Management Company and had some well-known clients such as Spottswoode, St. Supery and private grape customers of Duckhorn Winery. The family, fortunately, came about purchasing some land where mountain Cabernet fruit could be grown and 1993 was their first vintage of Clark-Caludon Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1997, they added Wild Iris Sauvignon Blanc followed by Eternity Reserve Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in 2009. The Clark-Claudon Family Vineyard is 17 acres carved out of 117 acres. It ranges in elevation from 800 ft to 1200 ft elevation. This site has cool evening breezes and excellent sun exposure to produce low yield, small berries with intense flavors."

98 Wine Enthusiast -
Smooth and decidedly in balance, this is an elegant mountain-grown wine, 100% varietal, with a pungent opening of turned earth. Understated power builds a foundation of structure and expansive mouthfeel, with a juicy center of sharp red fruit, clove and dried herb. The finishing touch is a twist of salty oak and tea.
96 Jeb Dunnuck -
A cellar selection blend that's mostly (all?) Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Eternity is dense and concentrated, with a full-bodied, mineral-laced style carrying impressive cassis fruits as well as notes of violets, crushed stone, orange blossom, and freshly sharpened pencils. It's a classic 2018 that shows the structure and purity of this great vintage. It needs to be forgotten for at least 4-5 years and should have 30 years of more of longevity.
