Expect juicy red stone fruits and dark berries lifted with plenty of baking spice, shaved dark chocolate, pipe tobacco and orange zest. It has the tannins and acid to age, but the softness (and price!) to say, “Why wait?”

The Clos du Luz winery has been family run since 1892, with the estate initially purchased by current owner Gabriel Edwards' great grandfather, and the vineyards planted in 1945 by Gabriel's great grandmother, Luz. This parcel of cabernet sauvignon is planted using 100% Massal selection as opposed to the more common practice of clonal selection. Essentially, this means that any new vine material is propagated from existing vines from the same site - leading to increased genetic diversity and heightened, unique individual vineyard characteristics over time.

This wine is certainly unique, and yet classic cabernet sauvignon notes are found throughout. Trust us, you’re going to want at least 6 of these!

93 Descorchados -
The 1945 line pays tribute to the old Edwards family vineyard in the Almahue area, in the Cachapoal Valley. From there they get this Cabernet Sauvignon that has the sweet red fruit side of the variety in a sunny climate like that area. In addition, it has a friendly texture, with polished tannins, which makes it easy to drink, although it is nevertheless a red with great aging potential. Plenty of acidity and tannin structure.
92 James Suckling -
A juicy, fruity red with aromas of spiced plum, blackberry, chocolate orange and sweet tobacco. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Flavorful finish. Drink now or hold.
91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The aromatic and exotic 2019 Massal 1945 Cabernet Sauvignon feels riper than the alcohol it has and feels quite generously oaked despite being aged in used barriques and a 7,000-liter Taransaud oak vat, which might have marked the wine more than the neutral barrels. 20,000 bottles were filled in August 2020.
