Since 1984, Byron has been crafting site-specific pinot noir from pristine vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Winemaker Jonathan Nagy, who's tenure at Byron spans two decades, picks each row, block and parcel that has the most potential to express both the purity of the varietal as well as the site. Jonathan is a certified rockstar who has been an influential fixture in the Sta. Rita wine scene, and who's resume includes the likes of Bien Nacido Winery and Solomon Hills Winery. His wines have consistently received high praise from all the major critics with literally too many scores to count between 90-97 point scores over the years.

Let’s talk about Rita's Crown for a second. It is one of the crown jewels of SoCal. A premium source for luminaries like Russell Bevan, Walt and Dragonette, producing wines of intensity, depth and power. There is a salty mineral element to the pinot noir here that balances the fruit intensity to give these wines a sense of balance and finesse.

From a cool climate site in the Sta. Rita Hills, the 2015 Pinot Noir Rita's Crown delivers beautiful minerality as well as elegance in its medium-bodied, seamless profile. Black raspberries, gunpowder, crushed rocks, and ample forest floor notes develop beautifully with time in the glass, and this beauty can be drunk today or cellared for a decade. This cuvee spent 16 months in 57% new French oak.
