Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Chambrates 2018
Sauvignon Blanc | France
You have to say “rock” in connection with Sancerre, because it is of course the jurassic limestone and flint stones that make this one of the world’s greatest places to make Sauvignon Blanc, period! What a price for this “special occasion” white. Wow!
About the Producer
The Vacherons without question are Sancerre’s leading winemaking clan. From the family’s pioneering work in identifying and exploring the region’s top terroirs to their leading position in biodynamic viticulture, there are few if any artisans today in Sancerre as exacting or as respected. The estate’s peerless older vines, planted and cultivated by generations of family members, are cared for fastidiously.

From an average of 19-year-old vines on jurassic limestone (Oxfordiens) and picked between September 5 and 26, the 2018 Sancerre Chambrates opens with a clear, refined and aromatic nose with ripe pear and delicate flint stone notes. Round, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and full-bodied but perfectly balanced Chambrates with very fine tannins and lingering salinity. Tasted in February 2021.
