Styler Pinot Noir Wildcat Mountain Vineyard 2017
Pinot Noir | US
Scott Rich was introduced to winemaking in the home of a family friend who made wine in their Salt Lake City basement. Coupled with a father who was inclined toward Burgundies (lots of ‘em), it seemed as though Scott was destined for the vine. He went on to study Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design at UC Davis, but then realized winemaking was his true passion. He returned to his alma mater, graduating once more with a degree in Viticulture and Enology.
Wildcat Mountain Vineyard is something of a Sonoma legend. It is situated high on the southern flank of the mountain range that marks the western edge of the Sonoma Valley. The vines are planted on a south facing slope with distant views of the Golden Gate Bridge, where sparse volcanic soils, dense fog and cold ocean winds make it a tricky place to grow grapes.
We grabbed about 25 cases at this silly price today, and the wine is gorgeous. Boysenberry, black cherries, rose petals, spice and ginger, and a touch of cola….so wonderfully light on its feet and flavor packed. What a score!
