With the prices of Burgundy soaring in recent years, we love when we find a great red Burgundy that won’t break the bank. What is the best way to do that? Find a great vintage! I mean ALL-TIME great vintage like 2019, where even village wines perform at the highest level. Then, find an excellent producer with an amazing track record, and lastly, buy all you can!!
We have a (small!) parcel of this absolutely killer, focused, sensational wine, from 50-year-old vines. Incredibly youthful now, but irresistibly bursting with cherries, silky red fruits, anise, allspice, and a wonderfully long, weightless finish. Immensely satisfying for our terrific price! What else can we say, except...make sure you get some!
About the Producer
For more than three generations, the Delarche family has crafted authentic, earthy, and expressive Burgundy in Pernand. These are wines that drink at or above the level of MUCH pricier Burgundy, as it is hiding behind the noble Hill of Corton.
2019 has EVERYTHING! It is one of the highest quality vintages I have tasted since the 2002 vintage, and may even surpass that great vintage. The wines have intense concentration due to the lower yields, with incredible purity, aromatic intensity, and clarity. They are ripe, savory, fresh, and echo-deep, with serious energy and complexity. In short, this wine will rock your world for a song!
