Moncuit! This is one of those “in the know” Champagnes, a wine that drinks FAR above its price and we get it only once a year, only to sell out in a flash. Why not? It’s rare to find celebrated “grower Champagnes” (those small houses where vineyards and production are 100% family-owned) like the Moncuits, with their excellent Grand Cru vineyard holdings that don’t cost $50, $80, or $150!

Located in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger where grand cru chardonnay reigns supreme, Nicole Moncuit owns some of the oldest vines along the entire Cote with an average age of 45 years. Moncuit is a must have for anyone serious about Champagne. The female winemaking touch is evident here with incredible precision, elegance and pronounced minerality, all wrapped in a fruit basket of red berry and citrus goodness. The blend is 75% chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger, and 25% pinot noir from Bouzy, combining some of the best chardonnay money can buy, with some of the best pinot noir money can buy, and that is what makes this stand out from the crowd. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

You CANNOT go wrong here...unless you miss it!

The NV (2016) Brut Rosé is an unusual wine in that it is rich, ample and big in texture, certainly more so than the Blancs de Blancs. That’s the result of blending in 25% Pinot from Bouzy, where the wines are naturally very rich both in flavor and texture. Bright red cherry, mint, flowers and chalk all race from the glass in this super-expressive and wonderfully inviting Rosé Champagne from Moncuit. I loved it. Dosage: 8 gr/L. Disgorged: July, 2019.
