Carlo Ferrini is a super-consultant with an iron-clad reputation for helping properties achieve greatness, serval of which have achieved perfection, earning 100-points. He has taken home Wine Enthusiast's top winemaking honor, earning winemaker of the year and has also been called an "Italian Master" by Decanter Magazine. Giodo is his personal project.

In 2002, after scouring Italy, Carlo bought a 25-acre property in Montalcino between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo and planted six acres of Sangiovese to 15 different clones. It is here that he painstakingly blends his Brunello. A wine that is a pure joy to drink from start to finish, the warm growing season led to an irresistible bottle of Brunello, one that Wine Advocate called, "deliciously lush" and went on to describe its, "great aromatic depth, complexity and intrigue." "Carlo Ferrini is one of Italy’s best-known winemakers, boasting a professional career spanning more than 30 years throughout the peninsula, from Trentino in the north to Sicily in the south, and “wine offspring” that are among Italy’s most prestigious labels. In 2002, with the purchase of his first plot of land, Ferrini launched a new adventure, and a fresh challenge, but one that was really the fulfilment of a long-held passion.

The history of Giodo in Montalcino begins in 2002, when Carlo Ferrini, after years of research, finally identified his first hectare to purchase in the prestigious Brunello denomination; today, his winery, lying midway between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo, relies on six hectares of vineyard. With respect to aspect, elevation, and soil types, the location is perfect for viticulture. A majestic row of cypresses beckons visitors to this near-hidden, magical spot, while the vines dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino and to IGT Toscana enjoy a breath-taking panoramic view out over the sinuous hills of Montalcino as far as the massif of Monte Amiata. The final artistic touch is the picturesque grove of olive trees that yield the Giodo Toscano IGP olive oil."

This aromas of this Brunello are fresh and fascinating with mushroom, chili pepper, black berry and plum. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a super length. This is a great bottle for the vintage. The private wine of famous winemaker Carlo Ferrini. Drink or hold.

Carlo Ferrini's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a deliciously lush and soft expression of Sangiovese that offers great aromatic depth, complexity and intrigue. The wine keeps you guessing and in my case it took me a little while to wrap my head around it. Dark cherry and blackberry are harmoniously integrated with spice, leather, mocha and tobacco. It does, however, need a few moments to find balance. In the mouth, the wine is edgy and sharp with some sour cherry and cranberry. I know that winemaker Ferrini says he prefers this vintage to his 2010 Brunello. Both wines are beautiful, but I give the edge to 2010. This expression feels linear, tight and requires a few extra years of bottle aging to flesh out.
