Wow! Normally $35 - this is an incredible buy on a winery that is closing its doors after years of making delicious wines!

This cabernet is from a new vineyard for Harrington -- Cedar Crest Vineyard. Located high up (3000 ft) on Lassen Peak in Tehama County, in Manton Valley. Lassen Peak is California's only active volcano, so you can expect this cabernet, coming from high-altitude volcanic soils, to have a very unique flavor profile. Indeed it does! Very bright floral aromas laced with cranberry and red cherries drizzled with a balsamic glaze, this is a high elevation, cooler climate cabernet that is all about freshness. It's not a blockbuster style of Cali-cab, with an old-world sensibility that is a joy to drink, with sandalwood and cranberry strudel flavors that meld nicely with the volcanic minerality. This wine at times reminds me of the wines of Campania or even Mount Etna and at other times Left Bank Bordeaux. What a deal today!

About the Producer

Harrington Wines is a small producer that brings to light the obscure, forgotten grapes of California, as well as producing clean, stable wines with minimal sulfite additions. Although the term lacks a clear definition, these are "natural" wines for all intents and purposes. The winery was started in 2002 producing California Pinot Noir and eventually exploring other grape varieties from unique sites. Over the past ten years, Ken Zinns, Al Osterheld, Wes Barton, Alan Garretson, Terry Mahoney, Russell Obana, Tom Leaf and many others have jumped down the rabbit hole and devoted time, energy and thought to help produce these wines.
