Copper Six Sauvignon Blanc St. Clair Vineyard Alexander Valley 2024
Sauvignon Blanc | US
Like the Russian River flowing down from the north end of Sonoma County, we have some Alexander Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Clean and serene, 90 points – go swimming!
For a while there, we were having a hard time finding enough Sauv Blanc to slake everyone’s thirst, so we looked harder… and we did quite well, have you noticed? One for every mood! The newest addition is a single-vineyard from Copper Six. This little gem, made entirely from their St. Clair Vineyard, is for those of you partial to the graceful lemony-floral vibe. It almost reminds us of Pinot Grigio: hydrating, smooth, bright, delicate and so easy to drink down while you catch up with a friend on the couch.
Founders Maggie and Jake Coin have a "no fuss, no drama" philosophy, and they vinified this in a combination of large-format neutral oak and concrete – so the fruit is put forward with refreshing directness. The nose is all Meyer lemon and fresh-cut grass on a summer day. The palate delivers a pop of green apple Jolly Rancher, prettied up by paperwhite flowers and then grounded by a crushed gravel minerality. The finish is gentle as a piano coda… ahh… keep it flowing with fish tacos on the deck.
A crushable 90 pointer from 25 year old vines? Fresh!
About the Producer
Copper Six is a family-owned Sonoma County winery founded by Maggie and Jake Coin. Maggie earned a degree in Wine and Viticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, before she and Jake spent several years supporting a multi-generational family business in the medical device industry. Returning to the vines, they launched Copper Six with a "no fuss, no drama" philosophy, prioritizing historical authenticity and small-lot quality. They also own Grand Cru Custom Crush, a multi-winery collective in the town of Windsor.
Copper Six relies on a blend of estate-owned land and sourced fruit. Their own sites are the 19-acre St. Clair Vineyard in the Alexander Valley, dedicated to older-growth Sauvignon Blanc, and a rolling estate in the Russian River Valley currently being replanted to a mix of classic and lesser-known varietals. To supplement, the Coins partner with respected growers, sourcing Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from the Sangiacomo family and Gamay from the Alisos Canyon AVA.
