Spinning Gold Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch Sonoma Coast 2021
Pinor Noir | US
A quick reminder that we still have some incredible single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Spinning Gold. The magic of a Thomas Rivers Brown-trained winemaker, a prime Sonoma Coast site, and one of the most revered vineyard managers in all of California… steal the rest for just $19.95 apiece!
Confidence! Precision! Indulgence! Eight barrels of this were made; we received a fraction of that, and our stash is dwindling. Get to it!
Spinning Gold winemaker–owner Andy Jones was able to negotiate a small amount of fruit from McDougall RanchVineyard, whose harvest dance card is always full. Just 3 miles from the Sonoma Coast, amid towering redwoods at 1,300 feet, this is a powerful site that producers like Dutton–Goldfield and Kutch will charge $80+ a bottle for. Under $20 is a serious value.
2021 was one of the two best Pinot seasons of the last 20 years here, taking a golden site to platinum level. McDougall was planted in 1998 by the legendary Warren Dutton and long managed by the late vineyard genius Ulises Valdez.
In the glass: lashings of purple berries, raspberry turnover, and red roses, with crushed rock, fresh pine needles, and a hint of kola nut. Silky tannins carry a luscious finish of cool-toned huckleberry, hibiscus, and violet candy. Full-bodied, authoritative, romantic, just delicious.
There’s no bottle minimum for that irresistible 64% off, but grab at least six to enjoy included ground shipping.
About the Producer
Spinning Gold Wines is a small-production project by winemaker-owner Andy Jones. He draws fruit from sites like the historic Rossi Ranch in Sonoma and the lesser-known Madder Lake Vineyard in Lake County, with the simple aim of coaxing excellence at each stage of the winemaking process. Originally from Jackson, Wyoming, Jones moved to the Bay Area to continue his career in the culinary world before shifting to wine under the mentorship of Thomas Rivers Brown, who exposed him to premier vineyard sites across Napa and Sonoma. Spinning Gold is primarily available by private allocation.
