Agricola Molino Barbaresco Teorema 2021
Nebbiolo | Italy
We're thrilled to offer the new vintage of one of our very favorites from a small producer in Piemonte: a sexy Barbaresco scoring 94 points and priced extremely well.
Lovers of impressive, smooth, emotionally available reds… the 2021 Teorema is here to enthrall you every time you pour a glass. If you snagged a few bottles of the previous vintage, you know that the nose tends to be so darn good you almost have to push past it to finally try a sip. This new vintage is a scent-feast of ripe cherries, saddle leather, dried flowers, Fig Newtons, frankincense, and a prickling of bay leaf – sophisticated, sultry, a little sweet, full of personality.
We find the palate almost exactly as Decanter describes in their 94 point review: “Beautifully expressive cherry fruit, graphite, liquorice, sandalwood, and pressed flowers. A wonderfully focused and linear red…” We’ll add that the tannins are ripe and muscular, then chalky on the finish.
The producer is Agricola Molino, founded in Treiso by Virginio Molino and now run by his four sons. They aged the 100% Nebbiolo in a mix of small and large oak casks for 18 months. This bottle will evolve beautifully for 15 more years if you want to set some aside, but don’t feel obliged to wait, because it is gorgeous right now. Sip it by itself, or have it with a meat or pasta dish that incorporates some sage or a little rosemary or anise.
The Piedmontese pedigree, stellar score, and sheer quality make this a very rewarding way to support a small family business. We hope you enjoy this to the fullest.
About the Producer
Agricola Molino is a family winery founded in 1991 in Treiso, in the Barbaresco zone of Piedmont, Italy. Virginio Molino – a lifelong wine enthusiast from San Damiano d'Asti – purchased a small parcel of land alongside his sons Tommaso, Franco, and Dario. A fourth son, Marco, joined the winery in 2013. Today, the family farms 16 hectares across Treiso, Guarene, and Costigliole d'Asti. Dario serves as head winemaker, focusing on classic Piedmontese varieties – Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Arneis – with a balance of traditional methods and modern precision. Agricola Molino is the only winery producing a Barbaresco designated from the Ausario vineyard, planted in 1958. The Teorema is their approachable yet serious entry point into the DOCG.
