A great addition to your sparkling lineup. We direct-imported this to ensure the best pricing. And isn't their 2022 label charming? Perelada brought back their original design to commemorate their 100th anniversary (1923–2023). As far as the wine itself, it’s hard to think of a better quality-for-value performer.
This pours a pale gold with an exuberant mousse. The organically farmed blend is 50% Xarel·lo, 22% Macabeu, 15% Parellada, 10% Chardonnay, and 3% Pinot Noir, aged 18 months on the lees. The diverse grapes add up to a glass that’s fully loaded with powerful aromatics of rose petals, salted hazelnuts, orange creamsicle, and key lime pie. This Cava is big and impressive... especially for under $17!
Perelada was named one of “The World's Most Admired Wine Brands” in 2024 by Drinks International. Their stunning lakeside castle is one of the most emblematic landmarks of the Empordà region. Commercial production began in 1923, but still wines have been made on the estate since the Middle Ages – if you get a chance to visit, you must tour their museum. But Perelada is not a sleepy nostalgia brand – their new state-of-the-art production building is LEED Gold certified, the first European winery facility to achieve such a high environmental certification. Good stuff all around!
Get plenty of this and unleash that rowdy Spanish elegance whenever the impulse strikes!
About the Producer
Perelada is a highly respected Spanish sparkling wine producer based in Catalonia’s Empordà region in northeastern Spain, near the French border. Red wine was made at the Castle of Peralada as early as the Middle Ages for local and estate use, while the modern Perelada winery was established in 1923. They primarily work with traditional grape varieties such as Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada, sourced from vineyards that benefit from the region’s Mediterranean climate. Perelada’s Cava production is based in Vilafranca del Penedès, the historic heart of Spain’s Cava industry, where their sparkling wines are made using the traditional method – with a secondary fermentation in bottle. Known for their balance, vibrant fruit, and outstanding value, Perelada Cavas are a popular choice for those seeking high-quality sparkling wines that capture the essence of Catalonia.
